Rise of the Pharisee

Sharply dressed including a tassel

Who knows who is watching me

Outward looks are never a hassle

To make a good looking Pharisee

Gifted in speech and words to babble

No personal need will I plea

Glad I am not like this rabble

I’m too good a Pharisee

No sin in me will you find

I’m definitely not at all like thee

My pride is better than that kind

My task is to be the best Pharisee

Social justice issues are my battle cry

As long as you believe like me

My view is right, that is why

I am leading all the Pharisees

I fast, pray, give alms to the poor

Making sure everyone can see

Accolades, praise, tell me more

It looks so good on a Pharisee

My reputation is squeaky clean

A white washed tomb for all to see

The real me can’t be seen

I’m a plastic Pharisee

Bishop, Doctor, Reverend, Teacher

Titles are the most important key

I am not just some ordinary preacher

I’m a very special Pharisee

A Sunday Christian like no other

To make disciples just like me

Compare ourselves by each other

Makes a better Pharisee

I like what I have become

I speak with such authority

I know that I am better than some

It makes me a good Pharisee
