My Spirit will not depart from You

My Spirit will not depart from you

“As for me, this is my covenant with them,” says the Lord. “My Spirit, who is on you, will not depart from you, and my words that I have put in your mouth will always be on your lips, on the lips of your children and on the lips of their descendants—from this time on and forever,” says the Lord.  Isaiah 59:21

This is the last verse in this chapter that revealed the woes of a rebellious and sinful nation.  They recognized that they had thought wrongly, acted sinfully, spoken lies, and treated people unjustly.  In response to their acknowledgement of their frailties, God says that He will send a Redeemer.

But it gets better, He covenants with them.  The Spirit will be upon them, never leave them and will speak in and through them…forever.  This promise is the same as Peter declared at Pentecost as recorded in Acts 2.  And you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit. 39 The promise is for you and your children and for all who are far off—for all whom the Lord our God will call.”

Think of the grace of this move on God’s part.  After recording the awfulness of the sinful offenses that Israel had committed, He Redeemed (He purchased something that had no apparent value)  them and gave them an eternal promise of His presence.  And that promise is for us also.

Do you really know the presence of the Spirit for yourself?  Salvation is the greatest gift.  The promise of the Spirit remaining on you is the treasure found inside the gift.  Don’t stop with just being redeemed, let the word become fruitful in every area of your life.

Take time to mediate on this passage.  Believe that this everlasting covenant is for those who are born again children God.  If you are a child of God, then the promise is for you.  The Holy Spirit is upon you, will remain with you and empowers you with words of life for yourself and for living powerfully in the Kingdom.

If this sounds unfamiliar to you, just ask God to make it a reality in your life.  Ask him to confirm the presence of the Holy Spirit That Jesus promised in Acts 1:8.  In Faith receive all that God desired for you in this covenant.  Expect nothing less than what God intended for you to receive.  This covenant is not based on how hard you work and you can’t be good enough to earn it.  It is received by faith that God is fulfilling His part of the covenant to make it real, effective and lasting in our lives.

Oh what a wonderful God we serve, to forgive and then love us deeply with His eternal presence.
