You have Been Invited...
“Come, all you who are thirsty,
    come to the waters;
and you who have no money,
    come, buy and eat!
Come, buy wine and milk
    without money and without cost.
Why spend money on what is not bread,
    and your labor on what does not satisfy?
Listen, listen to me, and eat what is good,
    and you will delight in the richest of fare.
Give ear and come to me;
    listen, that you may live.
I will make an everlasting covenant with you,
    my faithful love
promised to David.  Isaiah 55:1-3

Have you ever been sitting at home on a Friday night waiting for someone to invite you to a movie or go out for a dinner engagement? It’s not the movie or the meal, it’s the feeling that you have been overlooked.  It’s the feeling that no one is interested in inviting you to participate with them.

God has an open and engaging invitation.  COME!  There is the invitation!  Look how many times in theses verses just the word “come” is used (5 times).  Plus the invitation to listen is used 3 times and give ear is used once.  No one can say that it was unclear.

Is there a status that you must have to be invited? No.  All who are thirsty, all who are hungry may come.  All who believe that there is more to life than what you have been dealt may come.  All who are hurting and believe that there is still hope for a different life may come.

What will it cost you to redeem the invitation?  First, you must respond, you must come.  It is not a change in philosophy.  It is not a change in thought only.  It requires that you humble yourself by admitting that your way of attempting life has failed.  Your philosophy for living life ends up empty or as Solomon says it is chasing the wind.  Here Isaiah is saying that there is a way to live life that is fulfilling and satisfying.  “Buy food that is satisfying”

Second you can’t buy these things that are eternal.  But neither can you barter with God to make him like you more.  Your good works and service do not impress him.  He just ask that you follow His Spirit’s voice and leading.  His promise to you is to experience everlasting love.  Walk in the fullness of all that life was intended to be.

Will you COME?
