39 And when he had entered, he said to them, “Why are you making a commotion and weeping? The
child is not dead but sleeping.” 40 And they laughed at him. But he put them all outside and took the child's father
and mother and those who were with him and went in where the child was.41 Taking her by the hand he said to her, “Talitha cumi,”which means, “Little girl, I say to you, arise.” Mark
5:39-41
God is not mocked, what a
man sows he also reaps. Have you every
laughed at the potential special acts of God?
If God want to show himself strong on your behalf, would you think He
was crazy? I remember one Christmas we
went outside and there was a minivan with a bow on it. Someone had decided that my family and
specifically my wife needed trustworthy transportation. We had six children and there was a lot of
travel that occurs with young children.
We had a need, but we were not prepared for the outright show of
kindness.
Many of Jesus miracles were
performed publicly. When Jesus was about
to raise a little girl from death, he only allowed her parents and his closest
followers into the room. There are times when we should exclude those who do
not “believe” that God can do a miracle.
IF you are praying for someone to be healed while at a hospital, find a
time when people who believe are in the room.
This is not an arrogant attitude.
This type of praying flourishes in the context of people agreeing
together.
Mark is most likely
recording Peter’s remembrance of the event.
He recalls the exact words of the Jesus.
IF there is a red letter bible of Jesus own words, these two Syriac
words are “red, red letter”. There are
recorded without translating them into English.
The first word means girl, young lady or some say damsel. Cumi means to arise. We would probably say “get up”. It’s not there is power in the phrase by
itself. It is just that the two words
have made it through 2000 years in the same language and expression. In the Syriac translation, there is not
commentary on the two words, because everyone knew what it meant.
Let him who has ears to
hear, hear what the Spirit is say. Jesus
spoke two words to a little girl perceived dead, and she got up. I believe He continues to speak to us today
with the same simplicity and authority. “Greg,
arise”. When I responded to those words,
he made me into a new creation. I have
never been the same since that time.
Jesus said “my sheep hear my voice and follow me.”
Father, Jesus is full of compassion
even now in our lives. He knew the hurt
of these parents about their child. He
has such grace and authority. Lord help
us to learn how to live life under that same authority. Help us grow in our intimate relationship
with you. In Jesus Name, Amen
